Residents - Class of 2021
Hieu was born in Long Khanh, Vietnam, and raised in Mobile, Alabama. He completed his B.S. in Chemistry and medical degree at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He chose Emergency Medicine to work with diverse and often underserved populations with a tremendous need for help from all walks of life, whether old or young, rich or poor, insured or uninsured, and regardless of citizenship. Fluent in Vietnamese and English, currently learning Spanish,Hieu hopes to pursue international medicine.
I grew up in Southern California where I completed my undergraduate degrees in Financial Management and Molecular Biology. After undergrad, I dabbled in the business world before attending medical school at Ross University in the Caribbean. I have a passion for Emergency Medicine with special interest in Wilderness Medicine. In my free time I enjoy traveling (30+ countries and counting) and everything outdoors from hiking, camping, and visiting national parks.
Dr. Tuan Ha was born in Wichita, Kansas where he grew up and completed high school. He attended The University of Texas at Dallas and graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelors of Science in biochemistry. He went on to graduate cum laude with his medical degree at The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. With his special interest in acute care, he came to Aventura for his residency in emergency medicine. In his free time, Dr. Ha enjoys traveling, weight lifting, new foods, hiking.
I was born in Hong Kong and at a young age moved to the great state of Ohio. I completed my BS in Biology at Denison University. I completed my MD at Drexel University in Philadelphia. From there I took my talents to South Beach and thus far residency has been a fun and challenging adventure. My diverse interests, including skiing, hiking, and wake boarding.
Dr. Obando was born and raised in Miami, FL and is a true South Florida native. He attended Florida International University where he obtained both a Bachelors of Science in Biology and his Doctor of Medicine degree. Dr. Obando has always been actively involved in the community while in undergrad and medical school by participating in health fairs and outreach programs. Education is a passion for Dr. Obando where he hopes to pursue a fellowship after residency and work in an academic setting.
I was born and raised in the forever enchanting island of Puerto Rico. Studied at the University of Puerto Rico and the community-based San Juan Bautista School of Medicine. I was involved in multiple community health fairs and interest groups in medical school. I am a foodie at heart, dancer and love to chat while drinking Cuban colada. My biggest interest after residency is pursuing an ultrasound fellowship because POCUS is LIFE!
"I grew up in South Florida and I am excited to be back home for residency. I went to Florida State University for both my undergraduate and medical school education. Go Noles! I have a background in teaching and my clinical interests include medical education, trauma and community medicine. In my personal life, I love to travel with my husband as much as possible. I also enjoy visiting museums, cooking and sampling different cuisines from around the world."
Dr. Ryder grew up in Orlando, FL and yes, she did go to Disney World all the time as a kid. She stayed in the state and attended The University of Miami on academic scholarship and played on the club travel tennis team. She then moved to Sydney, Australia where she earned her MD from the University of Sydney and trained at the oldest teaching hospital in Australia. Whilst she loved Australia, she was keen to return to her Florida-roots and was excited to begin her training in Emergency Medicine.
After studying systems Neuroscience at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Daniel Samet spent a year volunteering with survivors of torture iin Maryland. He then attended medical school at Florida International University in Miami, FL and is current an Emergency medicine resident with a passion for resuscitation, toxicology, and rare disease. When not working and studying, he enjoys travel and scuba diving.
Born in China, I grew up mostly in the Minneapolis area. I completed my medical school training at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities. I could not have asked for a more vibrant, energetic, and engaged residency program and am privileged to work with such a diverse and dynamic group of faculty, colleagues, and patients. In my free time, I enjoy a moderate amount of exercise, recreational sports, and exploring the city. My personal goal is to travel to as many countries as possible.
